A Pledge: Is A Solemn Promise, Senator Clinton

Wed Feb 06, 2008 at 11:53:55 PM PDT

The looming delegate fight that may very well occur regarding seating of the Florida and Michigan delegates during the Democratic Convention could literally cause irrecoverable harm to the Democratic Party.

Barack Obama, John Edwards and Hillary Clinton all made this pledge, this promise based on the sanctions placed on these two states for leap frogging their primaries a head of schedule.

But now, Senator Clinton is changing her tune. The Associated Press on January 27th, reported that Clinton has already "vowed" to ensure that she would fight to have the Michigan and Florida delegates seated at the Convention.  So, we are suppose to Trust Senator Clinton as our President?

As quoted in the St. Petersburg Times, Howard Dean said:

"Their primary essentially won't count, " Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean said of Florida. "Anybody who campaigns in Florida is ineligible for delegates."

And just so we are clear on the rules, and exactly what Senator Clinton pledged not to do, according to the same article in the St. Petersburg Times:

The rules, unanimously passed in 2006 by nearly 450 Democratic party activists across the country - including Florida - are clear and leave little or no leeway for Dean to waive them: Any state that violates the schedule set by the DNC loses half its delegates to the national nominating convention and any candidate who campaigns in that state will forfeit all delegates from that state.

Senator Clinton seems to make up her own rules as she goes along in her bid for the Presidency. If Obama had gone to Florida and openly campaigned after giving his pledge not to, I wonder what kind of response we would have had to endure from Big Bad Bill and all her spinners.  There would have been hell to pay, I'm sure of that.

When you go into the ring for a professional boxing match, the referee tells you..No hitting below the belt...keep it clean.  These are the RULES.  But the rules don't seem to apply to Senator Clinton because she lacks the most basic quality in a human being: Character.  Do I trust her to proceed with her promises on behalf of the people of this country.  No I do not, and the reason I don't is that actions speak louder than words.

If this fight comes to the floor of the convention, please know now, who will be responsible for the implosion of all of our hard work and efforts, all of our greatest hopes and aspirations, all of our dreams of taking our country back.  The battle may be won by the Hillary over these delegates, but the harm done in doing so will cause a deep chasm within our party.  I hope that Howard Dean thinks long and hard before he allows a promise to be broken, that will, at the end of the day leave many hearts broken.
